Images: Update All Images

The "Update Images" form opens as shown below. The first thing you need to do is verify the "Output Directory" (1). This is normally set the first time you start Profit Manager, but you should review it here before you start.

This should be a temporary directory that is NOT the same as the RockSolid POS® Do it Best image directory (which is usually something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rock\DOItImage").

To change it, just click the ellipsis button (2).

Next, select the Department, or Departments that you want to download (3), and click the "Download" button (4).


Downloading DIB Images

That will take a few minutes up to an hour, depending on how many images are being downloaded, and how busy the Do it Best servers are. I recommend downloading images either early in the morning, late at night, or on the weekend. It isn't something that has to be done every day, or even weekly. I generally do it once a month.

Once the download is done the "Compare Images" button (2 below), the "New Image Directory" text box (3 below), and the "Destination Directory" text box (4 below) will be enabled and you are almost ready to "Compare Images" (2 below).

But first make sure your Directories are correct!

The "New Image Directory" text box (3 below) should be the same as the "New Image Directory" (1 below).

The "Destination Directory" (4 below) should be pointing to the the live RockSolid POS® Do it Best image directory which is usually something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rock\DOItImage".

OK, now go ahead and click the "Compare Images" button (2 below). Profit Manager will compare the images it just downloaded to those in the RockSolid POS® DoItImage directory and show you the ones that have changed. In the screen shot below I downloaded the 3000 department. I stock 2112 items and there were only 13 that were different (5 below). You review them by scrolling through them using the Navigation buttons. A lot of the image changes I find are like this one. Do it Best has updated their image on the www.mydoitbest.com web site, so we have a new image for the tool set.

Sometimes Do it Best reuses a SKU and the image does not match the description at all! When this happens, I do a little more research and sometimes have to also fix the item description, cost, retail etc. in ROMAN.

I usually update the image by clicking on the "Green Arrow" button to copy the new image to the live image directory. You can always "Undo" the update if you choose. And if you just navigate through the images and like all the new ones you can just click the "Update All" button (8 below).

Comparing Images



One thing that has been happening lately is that some images come down from Do it Best are sized wrong. Note the images below. The one the system has on the right (2) is way too big to be displayed by the POS. When Profit Manager downloads an image he automatically re-sizes the image so it will display correctly for you. See the correctly sized image on the left (1)... So in actuality, you will never see this here in the Update Images routine.
